Dear LPES Families:
Welcome back to the 2009-10 school year! I hope that you all were able to find some time to enjoy your children and some time as a family before we get back into the new school year. It's always exciting for me to see the students come back into the school, most of them a bit taller, with new school supplies and proudly showing off their new backpacks, haircuts, new or missing teeth, and sharing their adventures.
We have had a few changes in our school staff this year. Ms. Dana Chelak is joining our fifth grade team, replacing Mr. Rusty Reed, who is pursuing other opportunities in District 20. We will miss Mr. Reed and wish him nothing but the best. Ms. Chelak has recently moved to Colorado from Virginia and has an extensive science background. She is very excited to be a part of our team, and is looking forward to getting to know our students and families. Mrs. Lisa Headley, who was with us two years ago as a kindergarten teacher, will be teaching second grade. We are excited to have Mrs. Headley back as part of the LPES team. Mrs. Tami Edmond is joining Mrs. Waldmann in the Media/Technology Center as our Media/Technology paraprofessional. Mrs. Edmond has a great deal of prior experience with working in libraries though the military. Welcome to Ms. Chelak, Mrs. Headley and Mrs. Edmond!
We did have quite a few teachers move to different grade levels. Our third grade team will be Mrs. Monica Kaler, Mrs. Kim Sinkola, and Mrs. Melinda Kennedy. At fourth grade, Mrs. Neva Nardone will join Mrs. Angela Bates and Ms. Jennifer Hayden. Our fifth grade team will be Mrs. Pamela Kern, Mrs. Denise Fiedler and Ms. Dana Chelak.
We had a few building improvements over the summer - parents should note that our kindergarten classrooms now have cubbies in the hall! We have also moved our half-day kindergarten into the hall with the first grade classes. Our preschool families will be asked to enter the building through the front doors and will be able to access the preschool through what used to be the half-day kindergarten classroom. We have also removed the doors between the hallway and the bathrooms, which will allow us to better supervise the bathrooms and insure student safety.
You likely have noticed that our webpages have a different "look." We have switched webpage providers and feel that School Fusion will provide us with the ability to provide you with timely information. You can sign up for email notifications from our calendar, and your child's teacher will provide you with information if they choose to create a class website.
If you are new to LPES, you will soon find that our community of learners, parents and teachers is truly like no other. We welcome parents and family members into our school and are happy to help or assist you in any way possible. If you are looking for volunteer opportunities, our PTO will be sending out information regarding volunteering and participating in activities. Our Building Accountability Committee (BAC) also meets monthly as an advisory group. Contact information for PTO, BAC, and other groups will be provided in our monthly “Eagle’s View” newsletter, which is distributed electronically, or by request in a hard copy. Additionally, we utilize our parent email list to provide you with information between our newsletters.
We are excited about seeing all of our students and families as the school year begins. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns!
Sincerely,
Lois Skaggs
